The Road Most Taken

IMG_1578

I travel this road a lot.  Well, not a lot but nearly as often as I leave my house.  It’s one of two main roads out of here.  It’s beautiful when I’m paying attention.

There’s not much of traffic, and what there is is OK with just going around me so I can take my time and look if I want to.

The sky is big here – not big like on a prairie or on the ocean but big for this place full of hills and valleys.  There’s a corn field, stubble now, on one side and some low bushy stuff, brownish now, on the other.  There’s a dairy farm, a small aircraft airport, a farm stand.  There are sheep, horses, gardens, pine trees, hay fields, tractors, buggies.

Bare stubble now, in the spring it is corn laid out in neat rows and I watch it grow all summer.

A child gets off the bus in front of the dairy farm.

If I’m going the speed limit it takes me about ten minutes to get from the beginning to the end of this road. And it’s at least twenty minutes to the nearest strip mall, maybe more.  I wish it were farther.
